Journalists cannot function in a vacuum. Especially when you travel to a country where you don’t know the language, barely know the customs and are totally lost in a giant city.

I’m incredibly indebted to these two for making sure my story about shipbreaking worked out.

Jefri, thank you. You went above and beyond the necessary work to gain access for my story. The tension we both felt sitting in that law office, hardly talking to each other, praying in our heads we’d get access is a memory i’ll always keep with me. When the door outside the office closed and we were granted access, the moment filled with high-fives and smiles set the tone for my time in Indonesia.

I learned so much about your country from you, about when to bring donuts to keep your access alive, how to approach people (handshakes and smiles, always) and incredible, tireless work ethic.
